Jamaica Facing Water Shortages

JAMAICA – Jamaica is heading into a strict nationwide water lockdown across seven parishes starting August 17.

The National Water Commission says reservoirs have reached critical levels after a prolonged El Niño-driven drought.

The order bans non-essential water use, with violators facing fines or up to 30 days in prison, as authorities move to prioritize supplies for schools and healthcare facilities.

Residents are being urged to conserve water and check local guidelines on restrictions and assistance.
