SEATTLE, U.S.A – For the second time in his career, Jazz Chisholm is back in the MLB postseason.

Chisholm and his New York Yankees became the first American League team to clinch a postseason berth last night with a 2-1 over the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park in Seattle.

The Yankees scored the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning, but a bizarre and fortunate ending for the Yankees sealed the win with a heads up play.

With the tying and winning runs on base, Julio Rodríguez was caught drifting off third base and into a double play after dodging Randy Arozarena’s bat.

Chisholm has delivered as promised since he was traded to the yankees in late July.

In 37 games he has a .289/.344/.514 slash line with nine home runs, 16 rbi, and 14 stolen bases and scored 25 runs.

New York has now reached the playoffs in seven of the last eight seasons.

They may be in, but the Yankees still have lots to play for. 

In the AL East they are five games up on the Baltimore Orioles for the top spot in the division ahead of next week’s three game series.

The Yankees are also chasing New York is also attempting to secure a top-two seed in the AL, which would guarantee a place in the divisional series. 

Baseball

In just over a month, international competition returns to the Andre Rodgers Stadium at the senior level, with the sixth Caribbean Cup.

The World Baseball Softball Confederation sanctioned event will be hosted October 23-28, featuring The Bahamas, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Curaçao, the U.S. Virgin Islands and St. Maarten. 

This will be the second edition of the Caribbean Cup hosted in The Bahamas following the 2022 tournament.

Meanwhile, Chavez Fernanders’ pro baseball journey will take him to Venezuela.

The 27-year-old right-handed reliever will join the Aragua Tigers of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League.

A former Detroit Tigers prospect drafted out of Polk State, Fernander spent six years in Tigers’ farm system, reaching as high as AAA in 2023.

He’s also played several seasons of winter baseball in Puerto Rico with Indios de Mayagüez, and most recently, in the Mexican League with Acereros de Monclova last season.

Across 30 and ⅓ innings, he had a 2-1 record with a 2.08 era, and 28 strikeouts.

Fernander also represented Great Britain at the 2023 world baseball classic in Arizona.

NCAA Football

The 2025 Bowl season was officially launched in The Bahamas this week, and as always, we send you into the college football weekend with an update on the best from our perspective conferences headed to the Thomas A. Robinson stadium on January 4.

Maction was on full display in week three as the Mid American Conference won six non-conference games last Saturday.

Toledo was the highlight with a 41-17 rout of Mississippi State out of the SEC. The Rockets, who appeared  in the 2018 bahamas bowl, are 3-0 on the season.

Rockets quarterback Tucker Gleason threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns, with completions to nine different players.

Over in Conference USA, Sam Houston State continues its great start with a 31-13 win over Hawaii.

Sam Houston is 2-1 in their second season in the league, and eligible for a bowl for a first time.

Liberty running back billy lucas ran for 104 yards and three touchdowns to lead the flames to a win. 

Liberty is another team that has never played in the Bahamas Bowl.
