NEW YORK – In the midst of a fight for the American League Division lead, the New York Yankees turned to their newest star in a pivotal moment – and Jazz Chisholm delivered once again.

Chisholm’s infield single in the 11th inning scored Jon Berti to deliver a 4-3 win for the Yankees Wednesday night at Yankee Stadium in New York.

In a game where hits were few and far between, the Yankees made their few hits matter, none bigger than Chisholm’s rbi to send the more than 40,000 fans in attendance  into a frenzy.

Chisholm hit clean up for just the second time since he joined the Yankees in July.

A groundout by Juan Soto sent berti to third, then the royals intentionally walked aaron judge who eventually advanced to second on defensive indifference.

On a 2-1 count, Chisholm drove a slider toward shortstop and Berti scored the game winner, beating out a Bobby Witt throw on a headfirst slide.

The Yankees increased their lead in the al east to 1.5 games over the Baltimore Orioles.

His work at the plate took the headlines but Chisholm also had a few highlights in the field.

His diving stop at third erased what would have been a sure double in the top of the sixth inning.

Basketball

It feels like Sammy Hunter just got to Kosovo and he’s already got a tournament title to his resume.

Hunter and KB Trepca won the preseason Kosovo Super Cup with a win an 89-73 over Sigal Prishtina.

The rookie forward finished with 18 points on 7-13 shooting from the field.

They opened the tournament with an 85-76 win over KP Bora, followed by an 83-61 win over KB Ylli.

Up next for Trepca, their first matchup of the FIBA Champions League qualifiers on September 15 – a home and away series against Keravnos out of Cyprus.

Baseball

The transition to double-a baseball got off to a promising start for Sebastian Walcott.

The Texas Rangers prospect had an extra base hit in his debut with the Frisco roughriders in their first of a three game set with the Amarillo Sod Poodles.

In the top of the fifth, Walcott roped a double down the left field line for his first hit.

Over in the other dugout, Arizona Diamondbacks prospect Kristian Robinson went 0-3 for the sod poodles, but scored a run in his team’s 5-1 win.

Bahamas Bowl Update

We get to join in on the NCAA Football excitement when the Bahamas Bowl returns to the Thomas A. Robinson Stadium.

Every week we’ll take a look at the possible teams that could be heading to The Bahamas in January.

Taking a look at the Mid-American Conference, possibly the college football story of the week – Northern Illinois went on the road to stun fifth-ranked Notre Dame, 16-14.

It was the highest ranked program ever beaten by a MAC team.

In the player spotlight, Bowling Green Quarterback Connor Bazelak threw for 254 yards and two touchdowns and the Falcons nearly pulled off another upset before an eventual 34-27 loss to number 8 Penn State.

In Conference USA, the inaugural Bahamas Bowl winners – Western Kentucky – shutout Eastern Kentucky 31-0.

2018 Bahamas Bowl Champions – the FIU Panthers – dominated the first game in the newly rebranded Pitbull Stadium with a 52-16 win over Central Michigan.
