JJ, New York Liberty Advance to the WNBA Semifinals

NEW YORK, U.S.A – The WNBA postseason continues for Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty.

The Liberty are on to the WNBA semifinals after they closed out round one in a two game sweep over the Atlanta Dream.

Jones finished with 20 points and a game high 13 rebounds in the series clincher, a 91-82 win over the Dream Tuesday night at the Barclays Center.

The Dream opened the first quarter upset minded, fighting to extend their season, and took an early 28-19 lead at the end of the first.

New York outscored Atlanta 46-36 over the next two quarters to take a one point lead into the fourth.

Clinging to a 73-72 lead with just over five minutes left to play, the Liberty went on a 12-2 run to put the game away for good.

In a 2023 finals rematch – new york will face the Las Vegas Aces in this year’s semifinal. 

Game one is set for Sunday at the Barclays Center.

NCAA Football

Another Bahamian player makes the move from JUCO to the Division I level this season in NCAA football.

Amarie Archer and his East Carolina Pirates are off to a 2-2 start this season in the American Athletic Conference.

Archer a 6’3″ 305 pound junior offensive lineman has appeared in one game thus far, the Pirates’ season opener, a 42-3 win over Norfolk State.

Prior to ECU, Archer played in 16 career games at Dodge City Junior College before.

As a true freshman, he played in 10 games on the defensive line, credited with 20 tackles – four solo – including three tackles for a loss. He also recorded 1.5 sacks.

As a sophomore, he made the fulltime  switch to the offensive line.

Out of the Miami International Academy, Archer previously received offers from Webber International University and Florida Memorial University.

MLB

Jazz Chisholm and the New York Yankees continue their chase for the top seed in the American League. 

The Yankees failed to capture the American League East, with a 5-3 loss to the Baltimore Orioles at home.

The Yankees’ magic number to clinch the division is one, while the magic number to secure the AL’s best record (for home-field advantage through the ALCS) is three.

Antoan Richardson and the New York Mets lost 5-1 to the Atlanta Braves. The Mets are now clinging to an nl wild card spot, just one game ahead of the braves.
