JJ’s Efficient Night Helps NY to 30th Win

DALLAS, TEXAS- Jonquel Jones had one of the most efficient games of the season and the New York Liberty continued to roll with win number 30 on the season.

The Liberty scored a season high in a 105-91 win over the Dallas Wings Tuesday night at the College Park Center in Dallas.

Jones finished with 19 points on 78  percent shooting from the field and 75 percent  shooting from three point range, to go along with five rebounds, two assists and a steal in 20 minutes.

The Liberty started off on an early 12-4 run and dominated the first quarter.

Jones converted on her first three shots from beyond the arch.

New York improved to 30-6 in the season and 17-1 in games where Jones scores over 15 points.

At just over 70 percent, jones has the second highest field goal percentage on layups in the wnba.

New york became the first team to record 30 or more wins in consecutive seasons. 

Up next, the Liberty will face the wings in a rematch Thursday night in Dallas.

The Bahamas Golf Federation hosted its 2024 RF Bank and Trust President’s Cup last weekend at Baha Mar’s Royal Blue Golf course.

University of The Bahamas Mingoes star Travis Cartwright won his division and the overall title with 69 stableford points.

His Mingoes teammate, Payton Haye was first in the ladies division with 52 stableford points. 

Peter McIntosh won the seniors division 68 points while Anthony Hinsey, Horace Miller and John Reckley all finished with 68 points for a three way tie in the super seniors division.

In the legends division, James Steven Wallace was the winner with 69 points and Ural Bradford Pratt won the mid amateurs division with 64 points.

The top senior golfers will be vying for national team spots this weekend at the final qualifier, September 14-15 at the Ocean Club Golf Course on Paradise Island.

Team Bahamas will head to Trinidad and Tobago for the Caribbean Golf Association’s 4-ball Championship, October 16-20.

Basketball

Travis Munnings made the move to Spain this offseason and found immediate success in his debut with Fuenlabrada of Madrid.

Munnings scored 12 points in the championship game of the Torneo de Fiestas to lead his team to a 99-61 win over Flamengo de Brazil.

They also defeated Buenos Arenas, 95-69 in the Spanish cup. Fuenlabrada competes in the LEB Gold League – the second division in Spain. 

The six year pro spent the last two seasons in the French Pro B League.

He concluded the 2024 campaign with Pau eb Orthez, where he averaged 12.1ppg, 6.0rpg, 2.2apg, and 1.1spg in 18 games. 

Munnings has also played professionally in Portugal, and during NBA Summer League with the Golden State Warriors.

He also 7.3 points and 4.8 rebounds per game for Team Bahamas at the Olympic qualifying tournament in Spain.

Meanwhile, Franco Miller Jr. also made his pro debut in Spain’s Feb second league.

Miller scored 14 for FIBWI Palma in a 79-64 loss Menorca to open play in the Spanish Cup.

The 6’2″ combo guard out of Florida Gulf Coast, averaged  6.5 points and 3.4 rebounds per game in his senior season with the Eagles.

A mainstay on the  senior men’s national team he averaged 4.3 points at the FIBA Olympic Games qualifier in Spain, scored 20 in a friendly against Montenegro.
