NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Cabinet Minister Elsworth Johnson says he will run for Chairman of the Free National Movement when the opportunity arises.

He says the party needs a chairman who is articulate, eloquent and can help to regain the trust of the people.

He spoke to Kyle Walkine.

With the FNM’s convention one month away, it turns out it’s not just the leadership post that’s heading up.

The role of chairman is also a race to watch as now former FNM MP Elsworth Johnson throws his hat in the race.

There have also been rumors that perhaps former Golden Gates MP Michael Foulkes will also make a run for that post, and even Dr. Duane Sands

Johnson said the FNM ‘s crushing defeat at the polls during last month’s election says a lot and that the party has a lot of inward looking to do.

With leadership a hot topic and questions of whether Dr. Hubert Minnis will seek to be re-elected, Johnson wouldn’t say who he will support.

Central Grand Bahama MP Iram Lewis has already thrown his hat in the race for leader.

It’s believed Marco City MP Michael Pintard will offer himself as well.

Either way, Johnson said he hopes it’s all done respectfully for the betterment of the party and the country.

For Our News Weekend, I’m Kyle Walkine.
