Jones, Liberty Locked Into Eighth Seed

UNITED STATES – The New York Liberty closed out the WNBA regular season with an 83-65 loss to the Atlanta Dream Wednesday night, locking New York into the eighth and final playoff seed.

Jonquel Jones finished with 10 points, 14 rebounds and a block in just 20 minutes, but left the game in the third quarter after rolling her left ankle.

The loss came two days after Atlanta also beat New York, 95-84, and those two results dropped the Liberty into the eighth seed at 26-18.

That means New York will open the playoffs Sunday against the top-seeded Minesota Lynx in a best-of-three first round series.

The teams met three times during the regular season, with New York winning two of those games.

The Liberty won the first meeting 99-86 on July 3rd, with Jones posting 14 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists.

Minnesota answered with a 90-85 win on July 11, despite 15 points and 12 rebounds from Jones.

Then, just last week, New York returned to Minnesota and handed the Lynx another loss, 93-81, with Jones recording 18 points and 10 rebounds.

So while the Liberty enter the playoffs as the 8th seed, they go into the series with a two-one regular-season record against the top seed.

The biggest question now may be health.

Jones is being evaluated after the ankle injury, while Breanna Stewart missed the finale with left knee soreness.

Satou Sabally is also already out for the season with a head injury, meaning New York could be heading into the playoffs without three key contributors at full strength.

The Liberty and Lynx open their best of three series Sunday in Minnesota, with New York looking to turn a regular-season matchup it won two-one into a playoff upset.

Chisholm, Yankees to Host Wild Card Series

Chisholm went 1-3 with a run scored and a stolen base as the win moved the Yankees to 91-67.

New York will host the Boston Red Sox in a best-of-three American league wild card series beginning September 29 at Yankee stadium.

The two rivals met 13 times during the regular season, with New York winning seven and Boston taking six.

The Yankees also won the last three meetings, including a nine-two win and a 16-one rout on August 29 and 30.

For Chisholm, the playoffs come just days after his return from the 10-day injured list following a sprained right thumb.

He has now played two games since returning, going 2-6 with two walks, a run scored and a stolen base.

Bahamas Opens With Loss to Saint Martin

The Bahamas senior men’s national soccer team was handed a tough start to the 2026-27 CONCACAF Nations League, falling 8-0 to Saint Martin Wednesday night in St. Croix.

Saint Martin controlled the match from the start, scoring five times in the first half before adding three more after the break.

Saint Martin outshot The Bahamas 29-2 and had 64% of the possession, while The Bahamas failed to register a shot on target.

The result leaves The Bahamas at 0-0-1 with zero points in group C of league C, while Saint Martin moves to the top of the group with three points.

Now, The Bahamas has to turn the page quickly, with its next match coming September 29 against the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The Nations League campaign also carries added importance, with the competition serving as part of the qualification pathway for the 2027 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
