SENEGAL – Christon Joseph produced another record-breaking performance at the Youth Olympic Games in Dakar, setting a new junior national record twice in the men’s 50m freestyle.

Just two days after establishing a junior national record in the 100m freestyle with a time of 52.81 seconds, Joseph lowered the national mark in the 50-metre event.

He first clocked 23.67 seconds in his heat, eclipsing the previous record.

That time left him tied with Nigerian swimmer Kashope Obatoyinbo, forcing a swim-off for the final qualifying position.

In a dramatic finish, Obatoyinbo touched the wall in 23.55 seconds, just one-hundredth ahead of Joseph, who recorded an even faster 23.56 seconds.

Although he missed out on the final, Joseph left the pool with another national record and two personal best performances on the day.

Meanwhile, Saleste Gibson celebrated her 16th birthday with a 16th place finish among 40 competitors in the women’s 50m butterfly in 29.41 seconds.

Gibson will complete her youth olympic campaign Friday in the women’s 200m freestyle.

BSF Finalizes Roster for Women’s U18 Pan-Am Champs

The Bahamas will be represented by a group of 14 players at the upcoming VI WBSC Americas U18 Women’s Pan American Softball Championship in San Salvador, El Salvador.

The tournament is scheduled for November 21 – 28 and will feature a record field of 18 national teams, with the competition also serving as a qualifier for the 2028 WBSC U18 Women’s Softball World Cup.

The Bahamian roster includes Mariah Joseph, Katelyn Bain, Sanaa Roberts, Jamiah Thompson, La’Breah Sands, Kylea Greene, Lanell Louis, Maddison Dillet, Avrinna Pickstock, Kimeyah Coakley, Janae Bain, Markaylah Foster, Paris Lowe and Andrinique Lamour.

The Bahamas will compete in group B alongside Canada, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and hosts El Salvador.

The championship will provide an important international test for the young Bahamian squad, which has been training and competing together for approximately three years, including tournaments in the United States.

Bahamas Softball Federation President Marvin Woods has previously identified the need to develop more fast-pitch players, particularly pitchers, as the country continues to build its national program.

The Federation has also called on corporate Bahamas to support the team as it takes on the financial demands of international competition.

Walcott Named AFL All-Star

Sebastian Walcott has been named to the 2026 Arizona Fall League Fall Stars Game.

The 20-year-old Texas Rangers prospect has been impressive with the Surprise Saguaros, batting .300 with 15 hits, five doubles, one home run and 18 runs batted in through his first 12 games.

Walcott has also scored 12 runs and stolen nine bases, while posting a .362 on-base percentage and .822 OPS.

His power has been just as impressive, with two of the fall league’s hardest-hit balls belonging to Walcott, including one registered at 113.9 miles per hour.

Ranked eighth on MLB pipeline’s top 100 prospects list, Walcott’s All-Star selection is another milestone following an elbow injury that limited his 2026 regular season.

The All-Stars game is scheduled for November 8th in Arizona.

Edgecombe, 76ers Off to League Best Start

VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers are continuing to put together one of the franchise’s better openings to a season.

Edgecombe finished with 11 points, six rebounds, three assists and a steal against Detroit, and with Wednesday’s 112–106 win over Detroit, Philadelphia improves to 8–1.

They matched a start the franchise has now reached just nine times in its history.

Also, there is some pretty good company on that list.

The 1966–67 and 1982–83 76ers also opened 8–1, with both teams going on to win NBA championships.

Every Philadelphia team to start 8–1 has reached the playoffs.

The road success has been particularly impressive, with the Sixers winning all three of their games away from home, at New York, Indiana, Charlotte and now Detroit.

Philadelphia now heads to Cleveland on Friday.
