NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Supreme Court Justice Leif Farquharson has refused a bid to delay the upcoming general election.

Sharell Ali Mcintosh, who is the leader of the Bahamas Constitution Party, claimed that the government “is suspected to have given thousands of foreign nationals Bahamian citizenship, which enabled them to acquire passports and voter’s registration cards.”

Mcintosh argued that to allow the election to continue under these circumstances would threaten the fairness, transparency and the results of the election.

Justice Farquharson questioned McIntosh standing to bring the action on behalf of the Bahamian people.

He said that her affidavit was based on suspicions and not cogent evidence.

Justice Farquharson said the issues concerning the entitlement to vote could be heard in the election court.
