NASSAU, BAHAMAS – This was the moment that went viral, sending social media into a frenzy over the weekend.

Julien was one of three Bahamian artists chosen to open for international dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel.

The event at Clifford Park attracted thousands of enthusiastic fans eager to see the World Boss, but the crowd appeared visibly unimpressed by the Bahamian artist’s performance.

When asked about the crowd’s reaction, Julien says the viral clip circulating online captured only the introduction of his set.

“I was singing, and in the front of the crowd was a lot of foreigners who had never heard of Julien Believe before, and a lot of them had their camera phones out. A lot of the girls, I could see in their faces that they were enjoying it.”

Despite the online chatter, he stands by his performance with pride, saying he wouldn’t change a thing.

He says he’s simply grateful for the opportunity to showcase Bahamian music on such a grand stage.

“As I got into my set and I started performing more of the Caribbean slides and the Junkanoo sounds, they started to become more engaged. I didn’t think that the day after the Vybz Kartel concert, I would be the most talked about, and not Vybz himself.”

Also taking the stage over the weekend was Wendi. She claims her performance went without a hitch.

“I had so much love from the crowd, from the persons that traveled in from Haiti, and I had a great show. I had a great show.”

However, she expressed disappointment over criticism from fellow Bahamian artists, some of whom engaged in negative commentary about Julien’s performance.

“If you’re an artist in the industry, it is important that you understand that you reap what you sow. So why put out negativity about another artist today, for you to face the same tomorrow?”

Meanwhile, Julien says he welcomes all criticism, whether good or bad, and is now looking ahead.

“It’s ‘Whip W, Whip W, Whip W’, listen, if you haven’t heard the song yet, please go check it out on YouTube or wherever you listen to good music. I am a Bahamian, and I am proud, and I will not stop!”
