U.S.A. – Kai Jones continues to go back and forth between the NBA and the G-League, but when he is in the “G” – he continues to post dominant performances.

Jones finished with 25 points and 13 rebounds – both season highs, for the San Diego clippers in last night’s 103-96 loss to the Oklahoma City Blues at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.

Jones scored 16 in the first half to keep the Clippers in contention, but they trailed 54-50 at the half.

San Diego took their first lead of the game midway through the fourth quarter, fueled by five points from Jones, but the blues regained the lead on the next possession and held on for the win.

On a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Clippers in the NBA, Jones has spent time with both teams this season.

In six G-league appearances, he’s averaging 14.2 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.

In 27 NBA appearances, jones is averaging just over two points in seven minutes per game.

In the NBA, we had a vintage Klay Thompson sighting in Dallas.

Thompson hit 7 first quarter threes and finished with a team high 23 points in his Mavericks’ 130-108 win over the Washington Wizards last night at the American Airlines Center.

Tennis

The top ranked junior tennis players in the country took to the courts for the first major event on the Bahamas Lawn Tennis Association’s calendar.

In the under-16 girls Tatyna Madu won the title with a 6-4,6-2 win over top seeded Sarai Clarke in the final.

Patrick McTaggert added to his under-14 title from last year with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Synaj Watkins in this year’s under-16 boys final.

In the under-14 girls draw, Rebecca Bitan won  6-4,3-6 [10-2] over Caitlyn Pratt in the final while Chase Newbold won the under-14 boys title 6-2,6-3 over Kingston Rees.

Baseball

Just days after being named the 17th overall prospect in the minor leagues, Sebastian Walcott is headed to big league spring training with the Texas Rangers.

The 18-year-old shortstop will be one of 15 non-roster invitees when the club hosts Spring Training next month in Surprise, Arizona.

That list also includes 2024 first-round pick Malcolm Moore and 2024 rangers minor league player of the year Alejandro Osuna.

The Rangers are scheduled to play 33 spring training games in the cactus league, beginning on February 20.

Walcott heads into the season ranked as the top prospect in the Rangers organization and fourth overall at shortstop.

He was a south Atlantic League All-Star and the Rangers’ Minor League Player of the Year.

Basketball

VJ Edgecombe continues to rack up accolades in his freshman season with the Baylor Bears.

Edgecombe was named the Big 12 co-newcomer of the week after leading the bears to a pair of wins with two of his best games of the season.

The preseason big 12 freshman of the year scored a career high 30 against Kansas State and followed with 21 points on the road against Utah.

In his last five games, he’s averaging 19.6 points per game which has included 45 percent shooting from the field and three point range.

Edgecombe and the Bears look to keep that momentum going tonight when they face BYU.
