Lady Barnett Reflects on 23 Years of Service

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After dedicating over 20 years to leading The Bahamas’ AIDS Foundation, Camille Lady Barnett has decided it’s time to step back and embrace a new chapter of her life. 

While reflecting on her decision to retire, she shared that the timing felt right.

Lady Barnett is originally from Canada, but The Bahamas has been her home for many years. 

She is married to Sir Michael Barnett, former chief justice of The Bahamas.

Aside from her family, she says one of her  proudest achievements was the creation of an after-school program for children affected by the disease. 

As she steps back, the foundation moves forward under new leadership. Aramay Ford, the newly appointed president, is no stranger to the cause, having lost a sister to AIDS-related causes.

Now that she’s retired, what’s for next?

“Just relax,” Lady Barnett said “Just you know, when I retired, I retired from the University of The Bahamas three years ago. When I retired, I had a list of all these things that I wanted to do. I’m going to clean out my closet and get rid of anything that I haven’t worn in a year.”
