NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A teenager accused of stabbing a student during a lunchtime brawl at the Anatol Rodgers High School acted in self-defense, his lawyer told a jury.

The 15-year-old boy is accused of attempting to murder a 14-year-old boy on September 12, 2022.

Public defender Stanley Rolle said the defendant was the victim of an unprovoked attack.

He said the accused walked away from the initial confrontation, but he was pushed to the ground, kicked and stomped by several other students.

While prosecutors contend that the accused stabbed an innocent bystander in the back, Rolle said that the teenager used reasonable force to prevent a further attack.

On the other hand, the prosecutor, Kenny Thompson, said the teenager tried to kill the alleged victim during an unlawful fight.

Thompson said, “He brought a knife to a fistfight and stabbed someone who was not a part of the fight.”

The accused, who is on bail, will learn his fate when the jury deliberates on Thursday.
