GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Food security has been the message pushed by successive governments over the past few decades, and one business owner in Grand Bahama is heeding the call. She’s now growing local vegetables and seafood organically.

Looking to purchase fresh, organic, locally grown tilapia right here at home? You can do so in Grand Bahama. Local Organics, owned by Tiffany Dennison, carries the fish. She says tilapia has a bad name in other countries because they are over-farmed, but that’s not the case at Local Organics. Once the fish is culled in the pool, which is constantly filtered for two weeks, they go on sale.

Dennison admits the demand is so high for the product that they are not able to supply the fish fast enough. This is a project the owner has been working on for over ten years, but after Hurricane Dorian, she saw the importance of food security.
