NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Darion Smith, the man accused of murdering his girlfriend’s four-year-old daughter in 2021, is seeking to overturn his murder conviction.

Smith was sentenced to 25 years in prison as part of a plea deal in January 2023.

D’onya Walker, who was affectionately known as Bella, died on November 5 as a result of a beating allegedly inflicted by Smith.

Despite pleading guilty, Smith now maintains that his former lawyer didn’t properly advise him.

Smith returns to court next month for a lawyer to be appointed.
