NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who prosecutors say was disarmed and shot during a robbery attempt faced a magistrate on Monday.

Twenty-one-year-old Shadrach McKenzie stood before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley on charges of attempted armed robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

McKenzie was not required to enter pleas to charges and denied bail.

He’s next due in court on May 3 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.

The charges stem from an incident at the Rubis Service Station on Old Trail Road.

Prosecutors say Demargio Thurston was at the gas station on his 2024 Yamaha XTZ motorcycle when McKenzie tried to rob him of it at gunpoint.

Thurston reportedly tackled McKenzie and shot him in the legs as they fought for control of the 9mm pistol.

Thurston then took the weapon to the Wulff Road Police Station.
