NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter after a car crash killed his wife.

John Sands, 33, was driving his 2007 Nissan Bluebird west along West Bay Street around 10pm on April 30 when he lost control and hit a tree in the median.

His wife, Lashonna Sands, who was sitting in the front seat passenger, died as a result of the collision.

Investigations revealed that Sands’ car was not licensed, not insured against third party risk and had failed to transfer the ownership of the car.

Sands appeared before Senior Magistrate Carolyn Vogt-Evans charged with vehicular manslaughter and the three traffic offenses.

He was not required to enter pleas to the charges and granted $11,000 bail.

Sands returns to court on November 24 to receive a voluntary bill of indictment that will send the case to the Supreme Court for trial.
