NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man jailed for 45 years for killing his father has lost his last chance to have his “harsh” sentence reduced.

The Privy Council, the country’s final appellate court, refused Lee Sweeting permission to challenge his sentence, affirming a 2021 decision of the court of appeal.

On November 24, 2017, Sweeting stabbed his 73-year-old father, Leon Sweeting, 47 times because he refused to give him money.

He was convicted in 2019 following a trial.
