NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man who started an illegal sexual relationship with the teenage daughter of his friends has been sentenced to 12 years in prison.

34-year-old Cashard Smith learned his fate when he appeared before Justice Renae Mckay for sentencing.

Smith pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with the 14-year-old after his trial began last October.

Smith claimed that he would not have started a relationship with the girl if he had known she was under 16, which is the age of consent.
