NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A 50-year-old man has been jailed after he admitted to importing 60 pounds of hydroponic marijuana from the United States through a courier company.

Christopher McCartney pleaded guilty to drug importation and conspiracy to import drugs and he was sentenced to five years in prison by Senior Magistrate Raquel Whymms today.

McCartney was arrested on January 19, three days after Drug Enforcement Unit officers went to a courier company on Chesapeake Road after receiving information about two suspicious boxes.

The packages were searched and, between them, they contained 61.3 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, valued at $122,600.

McCartney admitted to arranging for the drugs to be shipped into the country under the names of two friends.
