NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Two men accused of shooting at a police officer as they fled a murder scene have been charged.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Jamaal Hamilton and 21-year-old Shanton McSweeney shot and killed Elvardo Thompson on July 20.

The deadly shooting happened at the rear of the East Street South Police Station in Pinewood Gardens.

Officers pursued the suspects in their personal cars, and McSweeney was shot in the legs when he allegedly opened fire on them.

Hamilton and McSweeney are charged with possession of a firearm with the intent to endanger the life of PC 4476 McHardy.

Both men were not required to enter pleas to the charges when they stood before Chief Magistrate Roberto Reckley.

McSweeney was on crutches.

Bail was denied and they’re back I’m court on December 12 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
