SOUTH INDIA – In South India, dozens have died from methanol-laced bootleg liquor. Methanol, added to increase alcohol content cheaply, causes severe health issues, including vision impairment and fatal acidosis.

Starting Wednesday, 215 people were hospitalized in Tamil Nadu with symptoms like vomiting and diarrhea; four remain critical and 56 others have died.

Government has appointed a new official, suspended police officers, and brought in additional doctors.

Seven suspects have been arrested.
