MEXICO – At least 39 people people have died in a fire at a migrant processing centre in Mexico.

Officials say the fire started shortly before 10pm local time on Monday during a protest against deportations.

Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said migrants had set mattresses ablaze.

Many of the victims are thought to be Venezuelans trying to reach the U.S.

Many have been heading to the U.S. border in expectation of an end to title 42, which gives the U.S. government the power to quickly expel migrants.
