Miami Councilwoman Never Forgets Her Bahamian Roots

MIAMI GARDENS, FLORIDA – Councilwoman Lady Shannan Ighodaro was born and raised in The Bahamas.

In her early twenties she moved from The Bahamas to the United States to pursue tertiary education.

Councilwoman Ighodaro making history as she is the first Bahamian to be elected in the city of Miami Gardens, the post she has held for some four years.

She says she has been able to bridge the gap even closer between The Bahamas and other cultures.

In honor of International Women’s Day Councilwoman Ighodaro is receiving an award from the state for her efforts.

Empowering the next generation is something she says she’s focused on.

The councilwoman says it is her mission to continue to spread the positive news of The Bahamas and to help develop the city of Miami.
