Microsoft Says New Chip Will Fast-track Quantum Computing Era
UNITED STATES – Microsoft unveiled its new Majorana 1 chip on February 19, signaling that practical quantum computers could be just years and not decades away.
Microsoft says the advancement could allow quantum systems to solve complex problems, from drug discovery to material science, while also challenging today’s cybersecurity.
Built using a breakthrough material called a topoconductor, the chip promises to control qubits with fewer errors than current designs.
