USA – Mikhail McLean takes another major step in his coaching career and joins the staff of one of the most storied programs in college basketball.
McLean was named an assistant coach for Kentucky wildcats men’s basketball, the latest hire under the new Mark Pope era in Lexington.
McLean spent the last 3 seasons as an assistant coach for Lamar University.
Prior to Lamar, McLean spent six seasons at his alma mater – the houston cougars.
Following his playing days on the court, he began his coaching career as a graduate assistant and eventually progressed to the assistant director of player development.
At the national team level McLean has been an assistant coach and defensive coordinator with The Bahamas senior men’s national team since 2021.
McLean becomes the third in a group of young Bahamian coaches this offseason to receive new coaching positions with NCAA Division I programs following Tum Tum Nairn’s promotion to associate head coach at Bowling Green and Nashad Mackey named assistant coach at USC Upstate.
Basketball
The Jr. NBA brought its outreach initiative to The Bahamas with a coaches clinic and development camp.
50 coaches and 50 athletes turned out at the Kendal Isaacs Gymnasium for the Bahamas’ edition of the league’s global youth basketball program.
At this morning’s coaches clinic, sessions were conducted by the heads of both senior national team programs – women’s coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin and men’s coach Chris DeMarco.
Both coaches discussed how to implement their respective defensive concepts.
Baseball
Bahamians in the Dominican Summer League continue productive starts to their pro baseball careers.
Trent Wilson got the first start on the mound for the Boston Red Sox DSL Blue Club.
Wilson had five strikeouts across three innings and surrendered just one run and one walk.
Rahswn Pinder is hitting .294 for the DSL Rangers.
After going hitless in game one, pinder went on a seven-game hit streak which includes three multi hit games.
Bohan Adderley is hitting .318 for the DSL Mets Orange.
He has hits in 5 of his 7 appearances with an .846 ops.
