NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is calling on the government to outline a clear way forward, as the country experiences another surge in cases.

Berthony McDermott reports.

Amid an alarming surge in COVID-19 cases, former Prime Minister Dr. Hubert Minnis is calling on the Davis administration to lay out a clear plan for the way forward.

On Christmas Day the country reported, 330 cases of COVID-19 – the most confirmed on any single day since the start of the pandemic.

However, not all samples were taken on that day.

Between Thursday and Saturday, 580 cases were confirmed. That’s more than the total number of cases recorded for the entire month of November.

Additionally, 91 cases were recorded on December 24th and 159 on December 23rd.

Last week, the government tightened restrictions for individuals entering the country and canceled all New Year’s Eve celebrations.

Dr. Minnis says in recent weeks, he has seen the presence of COVID-19 ambassadors fade.

He also called for regular updates from the Ministry of Health as cases rise.

Prior to last week’s briefing at the Office of the Prime Minister, it had been weeks since the country heard from health officials on the fight against COVID.
