More CARICOM Countries Want to Help Haiti

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The foreign affairs minister using last week’s Commonwealth Foreign Ministers Conference in London as an opportunity to discuss with other leaders ways to address the ongoing challenges in Haiti.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Talks surrounding support for the Haitian national police continue, according to Foreign Affairs Minister, Fred Mitchell, who says they have canvassed several Commonwealth Countries interested in supporting the crime fighting efforts in Haiti.

Mitchell says government still maintains its position to lend assistance where possible.

At last month’s CARICOM Heads of Government meeting where Prime Minister Philip Davis served as chair, discussions on stabilizing Haiti were high on the agenda.

Mitchell said unfortunately, the security system in Haiti is still not what it should be however, he is encouraged by what’s happening on the ground in Haiti in terms of the political movement going forward.
