NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Parliamentarians debating the National Investment Funds Bill 2022, Monday, which will replace the Sovereign Wealth Fund Act 2016.

Mover of the bill, Acting Prime Minister Chester Cooper says the bill will facilitate the use of natural resources and wealth and will also allow the formation of education and disaster recovery funds, among other things.

Cooper said the government is seeking to ensure good governance is built into the legislation.

While noting they support the bill, East Grand Bahama MP Kwasi Thompson said the government is benefiting from work done by the former Free National Movement government.

Thompson added the bill leaves room for the potential political influence.
