Murray Makes MLB Debut, Gets First Big-league Hit

UNITED STATES – BJ Murray Jr. has officially made it to the big leagues, and he didn’t have to wait long for his first hit.

The Bahamian infielder made his Major League debut for the Chicago Cubs Tuesday night at Wrigley Field, starting at designated hitter against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Murray went 1-for-4, with his first Major League hit coming in the bottom of the sixth inning.

With two out and the Cubs trailing, Murray batted an infield single for his first career hit, a milestone that was immediately celebrated by his Cubs teammates.

It was a moment that capped a breakout season for the 26-year-old, who earned his call-up after hitting .294 with 16 home runs and an .895 OPS in 118 games with Triple-A Iowa.

Murray was added to the Cubs’ 40-man roster and became the second Bahamian-born player to play for Chicago, following Bahamian baseball legend Andre Rodgers.

The Cubs, however, couldn’t hold their early lead, falling 9-4 to Milwaukee.

But for Murray, the result took a back seat to the moment.

One game. One hit. One more Bahamian in the Major Leagues.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. continues to make his presence felt in the Yankees lineup.

The Bahamian second baseman had a three-hit, two-run night Tuesday, including his 19th home run of the season, as New York defeated the Los Angeles Angels 7-3.

Chisholm’s solo shot came in the first inning, following Spencer Jones’ homer, as the Yankees jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

He then added singles in the fourth and eighth innings, finishing 3-for-5 with two runs scored.

The performance pushes Chisholm to 19 home runs and 40 stolen bases on the season, giving him a significant power-speed combination as the Yankees enter the final stretch.

He’s now batting .232 with a .331 on-base percentage and a .408 slugging percentage, with 67 runs scored and 55 RBIs.

With the NBA players expected to be unavailable for the final two windows, Team Bahamas will turn to its non-NBA core to help finish the World Cup qualifying push.

Domnick Bridgewater is averaging 20.6 points and 7.4 assists, while Franco Miller Jr. is putting up 18.3 points and 5.3 assists.

Kai Jones is contributing 12.3 points, seven rebounds and 2.8 blocks, with Isaiah Mobley adding 12 points and seven rebounds.

The Bahamas is 4-4 in Group F, with two windows remaining.

The NBA stars helped get the Bahamas here. Now this group will have to help get them to the World Cup.
