NASSAU, BAHAMAS – National Security Minister, Wayne Munroe, says he doesn’t understand the criticism after the decision was made to have two deputy commissioners of police.

After Shanta Knowles was sworn in as commissioner, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Kirkwood Andrews, along with assistant commissioner Anthony Rolle, were both sworn in as deputies at a ceremony last Saturday at government house.

After the swearing in, opposition leader Michael Pintard opposed the appointment of ACP. Rolle, but Munroe says the same thing happened under the former Free National Movement-led administration.

Now in a statement, Prime Minister Philip Davis hits back at Pintard’s comments calling them unfounded and unhelpful.

Munroe agrees, saying now is not the time to play politics.

“The police force, service act gives her that privilege. Not a politician like me, not a politician like the prime minister, not a politician like Michael Pintard. What he demonstrates that they have not learnt the lesson that got Marvin dames condemned by the court, which is that policing is not supposed to be politicized,” Wayne Munroe said.

On Thursday, it was also announced that several top cop’s received promotions.

Zhivargo Dames, Roberto Goodman, and Dwight Adderley to Senior Assistant Commissioner and Mareno Hinds, Anton Rahming, Advardo Dames.

As for now, the top cop position in the northern division remains vacant.
