Nationwide Internet Blackout Reported in Iran as Protests Persist

IRAN – A nationwide internet blackout has been reported in Iran as protests over economic hardship continue to spread.

Internet monitoring group NetBlocks says connectivity dropped sharply across the country on Thursday as demonstrators again took to the streets.

Witnesses told Reuters that protests erupted in Tehran, Mashhad, and Isfahan, with crowds chanting slogans against Iran’s clerical leadership.

The unrest—the largest in nearly three years—began last month in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar, triggered by a collapsing currency, soaring inflation, and growing public anger over economic mismanagement and international sanctions.

Iranian state media, however, maintains that conditions across the country remain calm.
