NIGERIA – Devastating floods collapsed walls at a jail in Northeastern Nigeria early last week, allowing 281 prisoners to escape.

Seven of the escaped inmates have been recaptured in operations by security agencies according to a spokesperson for the Nigeria Correctional Services.

The search for the inmates was ongoing.

Weeks of flooding across Nigeria have led to 269 deaths and displaced more than 600 and 40,000 people, according to the latest data from the country’s Disaster Management Agency Nema.
