NEMA: Take Storm Seriously

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Current projections keep subtropical storm Nicole’s track in the extreme northwestern Bahamas, but because of the storm’s size, the entire northwest Bahamas is under hurricane watch.

The National Emergency Management Agency wasting no time holding a press conference to outline it’s plans and preparations for Nicole.

Captain Stephen Russell, Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, advises members of the public to take the storm seriously, despite the forecast of the storm peaking at category one over The Bahamas.

Captain Russell says that due to other factors like king tide and high tide the projected storm surge levels in West End, Grand Bahama could rise as high as seven feet.

When asked about what NEMA can do in the case of people refusing to evacuate or changing their minds later.

Whether staying home or leaving for a shelter, now is the time to prepare your properties in anticipation of the storm.

In the extreme northwestern and northwestern Bahamas, there are three shelters in Bimini, 11 in Grand Bahama, 12 across the Abacos, 22 in Andros, 2 in the Berry Islands, 19 in New Providence, 17 in Eleuthera, and 3 in Harbour Island.
