NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Subtropical Storm Nicole is forecast to hit Grand Bahamas as a Category 1 hurricane on Wednesday, according to The Bahamas Department of Meteorology.

During a press conference at the National Emergency Management Agency, Captain Stephen Russell indicated plans are being made to relocate residents on Sweetings Cay, and in East End, Grand Bahama.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education has advised, with effect from Tuesday, all schools in Abaco, Grand Bahama and The Berry Islands will close until the “all clear” is given by the Department of Meteorology.

The Nassau Airport Development Company and Bahamasair each also releasing a notices of their own, advising the public of possible flight schedule changes in light of Nicole’s imminent arrival. Though, the national airport will be open for operation as normal.

The University of The Bahamas notified students that classes in the capital and on the north campus will be cancelled as a precaution for the inbound storm.
