NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The power company has a new leader steering the ship as government pushes forward with its energy reform plan.

Joshua Williams reports on how the new executive plans to introduce solar energy, reduce power outages, and make a lasting impact on the company, all while addressing the frustrations of taxpayers.

Toni Seymour, a native of Long Island, is now at the helm of Bahamas Power and Light, making history as the first Bahamian woman to lead the country’s power company as CEO.

Her appointment comes as government continues to roll out its energy reform plan to address the power company’s challenges.

I spoke with Seymour following BPL’s recent commissioning of two new generators.

She told me about her plans to elevate the company, placing a strong emphasis on long-promised solar power solutions.

Her appointment comes as consumers grapple with frequent power outages and frustrating summer load shedding, leaving many disillusioned.

Seymour, having experienced power outages herself, says she understands the public’s frustration and is determined to bring about real change.

BPL announced Seymour’s appointment on October 8th, following the departure of Shevonn Cambridge.

Despite the weight of her new responsibilities, as consumers hope for better service, Seymour admits the historic nature of her appointment is still sinking in.
