ABACO, BAHAMAS – A public-private partnership is being sought for the construction of a new Treasure Cay Airport which was destroyed in Hurricane Dorian. The area Member of Parliament hopes movement begins within this year. However, since the storm, it seems nothing has been done. Berthony McDermott tells us more about what the MP has to say.

Years after Treasure Cay International Airport was reduced to rubble by Hurricane Dorian, nothing has been done to rebuild the facility.

When our news visited Abaco, officials were operating out of a trailer.

When questioned, North Abaco Member of Parliament Kirk Cornish said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible Chester Cooper advised that a public-private partnership will go out for the facility.

However, he says his focus is on Grand Bahama’s Airport and the Grand Lucayan Hotel, adding that focus will be placed on Treasure Cay’s Airport after.

Following Hurricane Dorian, Abaco residents gathered at the airport, all trying to get off the island.

The airport is used as the primary point of entry for second homeowners and others coming to North Abaco, mainly Treasure Cay and Green Turtle Cay.

Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and South and Central Abaco MP John Pinder also weighed in at a recent abaco business outlook. He says he hopes movement starts on the terminal by the end of the year.
