NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Thousands of residents were left in the dark and dealing with the summer heat for several hours last night due to blackouts across New Providence. Bahamas Power and Light (BPL) blamed a system trip for the blackout.

Thousands of BPL customers were affected by last night’s power outage, which plunged half the island into darkness. According to BPL officials, a generator trip at the Clifton Pier Power Station around 9 p.m. caused the blackout.

Residents described their frustrations and how the issue impacted their lives. Social media was also abuzz, with many voicing their dissatisfaction. One resident said the blackout reminded her of the past, while another claimed their television was damaged.

In a statement, BPL said that supply was lost to roughly half of the customers in New Providence, but by 3:45 a.m., power was fully restored.
