NASSAU, BAHAMAS – On Thursday, Brookfield, which manages more than a trillion dollars in global assets, confirmed the refinancing deal for Atlantis Paradise Island.

The resort, which has already undergone major enhancements in recent years, is preparing for an even bigger transformation with this new funding. The projects aim to keep Atlantis competitive in the global luxury market while also creating hundreds of construction jobs for Bahamians during the renovations.

Joy Jibrilu, CEO of the Nassau Paradise Island Promotion Board, says the investment is a major step not just for Atlantis but for The Bahamas’ tourism product as a whole.

“There are plans that they’ve already talked about for the full renovation of the Cove, which is the upscale property at the Atlantis resort,” Jibrilu explained. “The luxury end of the tourism product is doing so well, and this bodes well not just for Atlantis but for Paradise Island. In addition, they’re investing in new amenities, another high-impact project. It’s a new injection of life into that property, and it will keep guests coming back to see what’s new.”

She adds that the refinancing reaffirms The Bahamas’ place on the global stage.

So the upgrades to the Cove and the additional amenities just keep Atlantis in line with global standards, including sustainability efforts,” Jibrilu said. “Even as we face challenges this year, from geopolitics to tariffs from our number one source market, the luxury market continues to thrive. This bodes really well for Atlantis, Paradise Island, Nassau, and The Bahamas overall.”

Jibrilu emphasizes that Atlantis remains a powerful draw for international visitors.

We are recognized globally as a luxury destination,” she noted. “Many of our resorts cater to the high-end market, such as the Ocean Club and the Cove at Rosewood. I recently returned from the Virtuoso Conference in Las Vegas, which focuses exclusively on luxury travel, and The Bahamas stands out among Caribbean destinations with more Virtuoso members than any other. It shows that we are perceived as a premier luxury destination.”
