Officer Shot in Stable But Serious Condition

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Officer-In-Charge of the Criminal Detective Unit Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson said a man is in custody and a firearm was found after an off-duty officer was shot just after 5:00pm on Tuesday.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Officer-In-Charge of the Criminal Detective Unit Chief Superintendent Michael Johnson said a man is in custody and a firearm was found after an off-duty officer was shot just after 5:00pm on Tuesday.

“We received information of a shooting that occurred at a local food store at Mount Royal Avenue and Wulff Road,” Chief Superintendent Johnson said.

“Upon our arrival, we met the victim who is a police officer and was off duty at the time. He sustained gunshot injuries to the upper part of his body. The information is that he was at the mentioned store when we believe that two men – who we believe attempted to rob the particular establishment – and he intervened.”

Johnson said one of the men produced a firearm and shot the officer to the upper body.

Johnson also told the press that the officer was taken to hospital by ambulance. Our News understands that he is in stable but serious condition.

Chief Superintendent Johnson said acting on information, officers went into the Bain Town area where they apprehended one of the suspects.
