UNITED STATES – One person has died, and 23 people have been rescued after an elevator malfunction trapped them hundreds of feet underground at the Mollie Kathleen Gold Mine, a tourist mine in Cripple Creek, Colorado, on Thursday, October 10th.

Two groups of 12 people were touring the mine, a privately owned tourist attraction, when the failure occurred, leaving one group stuck below ground for six hours. Responders were able to get the elevator functioning again and brought up the trapped people—11 tourists and one tour guide.
