NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition wasting no time digging into the Prime Minister’s 2022 budget communication, Wednesday. Opposition Leader Michael Pintard delivering the Opposition’s response just minutes later.

Pintard addressing the media following the Prime Minister’s presentation.

“The Prime Minister says they have a plan. That plan was outlined in the Fiscal Strategy report, to some extent. They are presently not following that plan. We want to understand, what is the growth strategy of this administration?” Pintard said.

Pintard describing the new budget as one filled with many candies, bound to lead to complications later on.

“They taste good initially upon eating, but there are cavities that appear later. We wonder to what extent has the government given consideration to how it will be able to sustain and pay for some of the things that it has mentioned in this budget.”

Pintard explains issues such as crime and inflation were also not adequately addressed in the prime minister’s communication.

“We fully expected that this budget would address measures taken – whether its sourcing of equipment, hiring of required competent expertise, or the provision of resources in any number of areas in law enforcement to assist us in addressing the carnage on our streets and in our homes,” he adds.

“I believe the only thing I heard was that they were eliminating duty on a number of food items at the border, which should help in some way. For those of us familiar with the excise tax regime and familiar with duty, know that much of the duties were already low or missing on many of the important items.”
