NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The official opposition is speaking out against House Speaker Patricia Deveaux, saying she is out of order after she called on the sergeant-at-arms to remove Opposition Leader Michael Pintard from Parliament. Pintard says they’ve not been treated fairly.

During West Grand Bahama and Bimini’s budget contribution, Pintard stood on a point of order regarding a park in Grand Bahama. He claimed the MP was misleading Parliament but was stopped by Deveaux before he could finish his point of order. This prompted a heated exchange between Pintard and Deveaux after Pintard refused to take his seat as Deveaux tried to move on with the debate. The House speaker told Pintard he had made his point, but Pintard wasn’t letting up. All opposition members left together.

Free National Movement Deputy Leader Shanendon Cartwright believes it’s another example of a government not wanting to be held accountable.
