PERU – Amid ongoing political tension Peru’s new president, Dina Boluarte, is proposing advancing the general elections by two years to take place in April 2024.

She also declared a state of emergency in areas where protests have erupted.

Two teenagers were killed in clashes between demonstrators and police in the country’s south-western region.

Boluarte was sworn in as president on Wednesday after her predecessor, Pedro Castillo, was impeached following his attempt to dissolve congress.
