PM: It’s All Political Antics, That’s Why They Will Remain Where They Are

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Prime Minister Philip Davis says he doesn’t understand the Free National Movement’s issue with the handling of millions of dollars connected to the National Investment Fund (NIF).

The controversy stems from the government’s financial reports showing the fund’s balance dropped from $265.3 million at the end of December 2025 to just $200,000 by the end of March.

In Parliament, Halkitis addressing concerns centered on the management of money tied to the fund, saying the government followed the law.

However, Opposition Leader Michael Pintard says he has sought legal advice on whether the government’s handling of the National Investment Fund (NIF) breached criminal, statutory or constitutional law.

When asked about it outside Parliament Thursday morning, the prime minister had this to say.

“The irresponsible characterization of this matter as fraud, but even knowing the facts, and the fact is that this is a transparent transaction…”

Pintard claims government has not been truthful about the matter, however Davis sees it differently.

Also, the state of the NIF isn’t the only thing on the minds of taxpayers, as we have asked the prime minister about the fiscal state of the country.

The fourth quarter 2025/2026 Public Debt Statistical Bulletin shows the central government’s debt increased by $696.9 million to $12.46 billion, a 5.9% increase over the previous fiscal year.

“Last year, our last year in office when they say we borrowed $1 billion. Our debt to GDP was…between 60% and 70%, so there’s no there’s no alarm,” Davis said.

However, Pintard disagrees.
