NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Power generation under the microscope. Not only for dollars and cents, but also the devastating impact it is having on the environment of The Bahamas.

Senior Environmental Officer in the Department of Environmental Planning and Protection, Arana Pyfrom shining a light on the Clifton Pier Power Station, where he says air, land and water pollution are the unfortunate side effects of power generation. And, that’s just on new providence.

Throughout the family islands, major settlements are spread across the coastlines – easy access to trade and the country’s major food source. However, the threat of pollution is threatening our health and some of our favorite dishes.

Earlier this week, Bahamas Power and Light revealed details of plans for a 60-megawatt solar field on New Providence by 2023 as a 23-million-dollar cost-saving measure for the power company, and it may just save a lot more.
