NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – A well known Bahamian producer and a renowned local entertainer have joined forces to raise awareness through cinematography.

While the duo aspires to distribute the film on a global scale, they shared with me, the major obstacle hindering this ambition.

Presented by Why Christ Media, this production–created by New Hill Productions and Das Quay Entertainment Productions -chronicles the obstacles that children residing in a group home encounter as they endeavor to attend their first Junkanoo parade.

The narrative also incorporates their struggle to maintain the operations at the home.

Producer and director, Leonardo Newman says the story serves not just as entertainment, but, to raise awareness.

“We want to bring to light the challenges what it takes to maintain a children’s home as well as to showcase the brilliance of kids in these home”

And behind the project is an all Bahamian cast, including local celebrity entertainer and actor, Jaquay ‘Das Quay’ Adderley.

“We had a casting call where we get to see the talented young Bahamians, old Bahamians and getting a role for the movie.”

While producers originally planned to complete filming within 15 days, at the time of our discussion on Sunday, production had already extended to day 24, a reflection of the effort required to produce a film of such considerable scale, according to the producers.

Budget constraints have also been significant contributing factor.

From production crew to cast members, they emphasized that their commitment was to ensure fair compensation for all individuals involved in the project.

“We’re currently still in the phase of raising funds to help us to complete the project because we want it on a professional level we want to pay persons for being a part it isn’t a hey come do a favor for me”

In order to achieve the objective of releasing the film to global audiences, Newman indicates that financial support is essential for this ambitious undertaking.

“The Lord has been kind honestly and we’ve had some amazing sponsors who helped us to get through the production aspect and we’re just hoping to find the last bit of funds needed to get through post production and our release”
