BRUSSELS – Angry farmers clashed with police in Brussels on Monday (February 26), hurling bottles as they voiced their frustration over several issues including competition from cheap food imports, stringent environmental regulations, and subsidies favoring large corporations.

The protests, which have been ongoing for weeks across various european countries including Belgium, France, Germany, The Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Italy, and Greece, are driven by farmers demanding better income and reduced bureaucracy.

They argue against unfair competition from inexpensive Ukrainian goods, particularly after the European union waived duties on Ukrainian food imports in 2022 to aid the country’s economy following Russia’s invasion.
