NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Coach Kevin “KJ” Johnson, head coach of the Providence Storm Basketball Club and C.I. Gibson High School, is the lead organizer of the Providence Holiday Invitational.

Johnson says the tournament, which features public and private schools from New Providence and select Family Islands, provides much-needed exposure and high-level competition for junior high basketball in The Bahamas. He believes that environment is critical for the sport’s continued growth nationwide.

Johnson also emphasized that having college coaches in attendance was a key objective of the event, noting that the platform gives young athletes an opportunity to earn scholarships and further their education through basketball.

He added that athletics can open doors far beyond the court, stressing that education remains the ultimate goal.

Sunday Hoops

Klay Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks dropped a 113–107 decision to the Sacramento Kings.

The veteran shooting guard finished with 14 points and five rebounds in 25 minutes off the bench, shooting 5-of-13 from the field. Thompson remained sharp from long range, connecting on 4-of-8 three-point attempts, but it was not enough as Dallas suffered its fourth straight loss.

Meanwhile, Cooper Flagg continued his impressive rookie campaign. The number one overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft posted 23 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the win.

It was a busy day for Bahamians around the league.
