RCI Exec. Addresses Environmental Concerns

PARADISE ISLAND, BAHAMAS – With an expected opening date in 2025, Royal Beach Club at Paradise Island, is being touted as the ultimate beach experience for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line guests.

RCI’s Chief Product Innovation Officer, Jay Schneider says they’re considering making a number of changes across the property.

Environmentalists have continued to express concerns about the proposed project, however, Schneider says they’re aim is also in line with protecting the area.

Bahamian entrepreneur Toby Smith had been fighting for land to develop a $2 million Paradise Island Lighthouse and Beach Club. And recently, Atlantis executives spoke out against the project.

However, Schneider says their intent is to utilize the entire 17 acres of land – that’s 13 acres of private land and 4 acres of crown land.

The property currently houses several dilapidated structures, however, the RCI executive say’s their hope is to retain as much of the natural eco-system as possible.

As for the cost of cleanup?

Now RCI released a report last week addressing many of the environmental concerns.

However, a public consultation meeting will be held on June 8th at Queens College at 6:30PM where additional concerns will be addressed.
